HIRUDOID GEL 40 GM

Hirudoid Gel 40gm is a topical anticoagulant preparation used for the localized treatment of various conditions related to bruising, swelling, and inflammation, particularly those involving superficial veins. Its active ingredient is a heparinoid, specifically Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate (MPS).

What it is used for:

Bruises (Hematoma): It helps to relieve pain, swelling, and promote the reabsorption of blood clots that have leaked into tissues, making bruises fade faster. This includes accidental bruises and post-surgical bruising.

Superficial Thrombophlebitis and Phlebitis: These conditions involve inflammation of veins located just beneath the skin surface, often accompanied by blood clot formation. Hirudoid Gel helps to reduce inflammation, pain, and prevent further clot formation, and aids in the resolution of existing ones. (For superficial vein inflammation, it should only be used on the advice of a doctor.)

Venous Stasis Edema: Swelling caused by poor blood flow in the veins.

Pain, inflammation, edema, and trophic disorders in post-phlebitic and varicose states: Conditions related to complications of previous phlebitis or varicose veins.

Treatment of scars: Some formulations are also indicated for softening and improving the appearance of scars, including hypertrophic scars and keloids, often by promoting the loosening of scar tissue.

How it works (Mechanism of Action):

The active ingredient, heparinoid (MPS), works in several ways:

Anti-inflammatory: It inhibits inflammatory mediators, helping to reduce swelling, redness, and pain.

Anticoagulant: It has a mild anticoagulant (blood-thinning) effect, which helps to prevent the formation of blood clots and promotes the regression of existing clots in superficial veins.

Enhances Microcirculation: It improves blood flow in small capillaries and veins, which facilitates the removal of excess fluid and inflammatory substances, thus reducing swelling and aiding the healing process.

How to Use (Application Instructions):

Preparation: Ensure the affected area of skin is clean.

Application: Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected area. The amount typically ranges from 5 to 15 cm (2 to 6 inches) of gel, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Massage: Gently massage the gel into the skin until absorbed. If the area is particularly tender or painful, you can apply the gel to the skin surrounding the affected area instead of directly on it.

Frequency: You can apply Hirudoid Gel up to four times a day. Do not exceed this dose.

Hygiene: Always wash your hands after applying the gel, unless your hands are the area being treated.

Duration: For bruises and hematomas, improvement is often seen within 1 to 2 weeks. For superficial thrombophlebitis, it might take a few weeks.

Important Precautions and Warnings:

For external use only. Do NOT swallow.

Do not use on:

Broken skin (open wounds).

Large areas of skin.

Sensitive areas such as the mouth, eyes, or ano-genital regions.

Individuals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to heparinoid or any other ingredients.

Children: Hirudoid Gel should NOT be used on children under the age of 5 years.

Medical Advice: Consult your doctor if your signs of injury or illness do not improve or get worse, or if symptoms persist.

Fire Hazard: Do not smoke or go near naked flames if fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings, etc.) has been in contact with this product. The product can make fabrics burn more easily. Washing can reduce buildup but not totally remove it.

Propylene Glycol: The gel contains propylene glycol, which can cause skin irritation in some individuals.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: While no evidence suggests it shouldn’t be used, it’s always best to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning a pregnancy, or have any concerns.

Side Effects: Hirudoid Gel generally does not cause side effects. Rarely, some people may experience a rash or other allergic skin reactions (like redness, itching, burning sensation) at the application site. If this occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist. Serious allergic reactions are very rare but require immediate medical attention.
